Formerly Burrard Centre for Massage, we worked with owner Richelle again this year (2022) to help transition the business into a new niche of therapeutic care for parents and parents-to-be, plus the opening of a new, holistic clinic offering massage, physiotherapy, acupuncture and naturopathy in Coquitlam.
Starting with name development, we began the process of transforming Burrard Centre for Massage from a downtown clinic for working professionals into Capria Care. We chose the name Capria for it’s strong symbolism – Capra comes from the Capella Constellation, derived from the Latin Capra. While Capra literally means female goat, the constellation Capella has been associated with goats too:
"The Greeks associated it with Amalthea, the goat that nursed the infant Zeus. In the myth, Zeus accidentally broke off the goat’s horn and the horn was transformed into cornucopia, the horn of plenty, which had the power to provide unending nourishment and would be filled with whatever the owner desired."*
So! Tied up in all of this we have Female Goats (the symbol of nurturing) and also mythology around providing nourishment and abundance. Adding in an ‘i’ to make it Capria, extended the length of the name and brings in another nice-to-look-at-vowel. The name Capria also happens to mean whimsical, which is quite lovely!
From there we updated the original brand identity we had created for Burrard Centre for Massage back in 2018 so that it kept the core feeling but was more feminine and colourful.
Lastly, the new brand was applied to the website. Working in partnership with Akari Digital who provided the brand messaging, voice and website copy, we redesigned the Squarespace website with custom code so that it felt welcoming, nurturing and like a truly safe clinic space to receive therapeutic care.
